Women’s Imaging Services

St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital offers the following imaging services to help women and their doctors monitor and manage their health.

3D Mammography and High-Risk Counseling
St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital offers 3D mammography services in conjunction with the St. Luke's Mobile Mammography Unit and St. Luke's Women's Center.

3D Mammography is the Standard of Care for St. Luke's Hospital and St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital.

Why 3D Mammography
  • 3D improves breast cancer detection by up to 40%
  • 3D reduces the chance of call-backs for follow-up imaging by up to 40%
  • 3D is particularly beneficial for women with dense breast or with a personal or family history
At your annual mammogram appointment, you are provided a wireless tablet with an electronic questionnaire to complete about your family and personal health history. That information is used to calculate your estimated lifetime risk for developing breast cancer using a combination of several validated risk assessment models. A specialized breast health clinician then reviews the results in conjunction with your mammogram results, which are read and reviewed by a board-certified radiologist specializing in breast imaging. From this, if you are determined to be at potentially higher risk, a breast care coordinator will contact you with your results and help you to schedule a consult with a women's health nurse practitioner in our High-Risk Breast Clinic.

Images are reviewed by the radiologists at St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital. Patients will be notified of their results by email or letter, based on the patient's preference. Any patients who need additional evaluation will be contacted by the Women's Center lead technologist who will schedule the patient for diagnostic testing and follow up at the Women's Center in Chesterfield.

Bone Density Test
A bone density test tells you if you have normal bone density, low bone density (osteopenia) or osteoporosis. It is the only test that can diagnose osteoporosis. The lower your bone density, the greater your risk of breaking a bone. A bone density test can help you and your healthcare provider:
  • learn if you have weak bones or osteoporosis before you break a bone
  • predict your chance of breaking a bone in the future
  • see if your bone density is improving, getting worse or staying the same
  • find out how well an osteoporosis medicine is working
  • let you know if you have osteoporosis after you break a bone
Your healthcare provider can schedule your bone density test by calling St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital's scheduling dept at 314-966-9297.
