What is CPE?

Clinical Pastoral Education is theological and professional education for ministry. Qualified individuals of various faith traditions minister under supervision to persons in crisis situations. Intense involvement with persons in need, other CPE students, supervisors, and other professionals challenges students to improve the quality of their pastoral care.

Students have extensive opportunities in interdisciplinary team processes to respond to the spiritual needs of patients and staff while developing increased interpersonal skills and professional relationships. Students in Clinical Pastoral Education have an opportunity to live out their religious vocations at St. Luke's in a milieu of hospitality while learning to enhance their competence in the delivery of pastoral care. From the actual practice of ministry students will have opportunities to reflect on their ministry encounters exploring how who they are affects their pastoral practice.
