Patient Classes & Support
Education for Weight Loss Patients
Support groups and classes are a valuable resource for surgical weight loss patients. Education, encouragement and support work together to help you reach and maintain weight loss goals.
You're not in this alone. Free patient support groups and programs are available to help you on your weight loss journey.
Our physicians recommend taking a class before surgery to help prepare for the lifestyle changes you will need to make. You'll walk away with a detailed nutrition notebook that covers lifestyle, supplements, diet progression and post-op exercise recommendations. During the class, a bariatric dietitian and nurse will answer your questions and concerns so you can go into your procedure feeling confident and ready for success.
Pre-operative nutrition classes last about 1 1/2 hours and are held at 2 p.m. on Mondays, 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. on Thursdays in the MyNewSelf Education Room, located in the medical office building at 2315 Dougherty Ferry Road on St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital campus, Suite 104. Please call our dietitians to sign up for a class at 314-966-9640
Alumni Classes and Support Groups
All patient alumni can join us for post-op nutrition, healthy living classes and/or facilitated peer support groups twice a month. Classes and support groups meet in the MyNewSelf program office, down the hall just off the main lobby of St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital, in Suite 420.
Classes on the first Tuesday will be run by a dietitian and classes on the third Tuesday will be run by a counselor.
