Extraordinary Generosity
Contributions Reflect Values and a Vision: Dick and Patty Battram
When Patty and the late Dick Battram moved more than 30 years ago and established themselves in the St. Louis community, their devotion to faith and family was paramount.
Dick and Patty Battram contributed their vision of the future to many of St. Louis' well-known cultural and civic organizations. Dick was Vice Chairman of The May Department Stores Co. and President of Famous Barr. He served on the Board of Directors for May Co., Drury Inns, Boatmen's Bancshare, Inc., Boatmen's National Bank and Pet, Inc. The Battrams were also actively involved with the Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton, where Dick served in the vestry as junior and senior warden.
St. Luke's Hospital benefited greatly from Dick Battram's leadership and business expertise. He served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1985 to 2006 and Board Chairman from 1989 to 1991. He also was Chairman of the Development Committee and supported the Strategic Planning Committee.
Former Chairman of the Board, Richard L. Battram supported many important initiatives at St. Luke's. The renovated lobby honors Dick and recognizes his appreciation of St. Luke's physicians and healthcare providers and their continuing commitment to advancing excellence for all patients and their families.
When asked several years ago about what makes St. Luke's unique, Dick said, "It's excellence! It's when all the elements of healthcare are managed by committed individuals with vision and deeply rooted values directed to a common cause."
