Generosity of Baur Family Provides Patients with Greater Access to Therapy Services
Andrew "Drew" N. Baur, Former Chairman of the Board of Southwest Bank, maintains a close association with St. Luke's Hospital's board and administrative staff. Baur served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Luke's from 1990-1992 when managed care companies emerged. The healthcare market was changing rapidly. Baur credits St. Luke's with providing the best clinical care available, where "physicians set the tone for the hospital, demanding excellence and the best outcomes for patients."
Baur and his family named the recently created gymnasium in the Desloge Outpatient Center. The facility provides patients with greater access to therapy services including occupational, physical and speech therapy. Additionally, Baur dedicated the new aquatics unit in honor of his late father, Andrew H. Baur. Aquatics therapists work with people who have muscle, bone, orthopedic and neurological conditions. Exercise that would otherwise be painful or not possible on land may be comfortable done in warm water.
"I was born at St. Luke's; my family and I are grateful for the exceptional care we receive," said Baur. "St. Luke's must continue to invest in new and emerging technologies as well as specialized patient-centered services in order to differentiate itself."
