Extraordinary Generosity
Orthwein Family Supports Growth of Major Centers at St. Luke's Hospital
A charitable donation of $1.5 million from William R. Orthwein, Jr. and Laura Rand Orthwein in 2007 has helped support the St. Luke's Brain and Spine Center, the first of its kind in the region, and the expansion of the St. Luke's Cardiovascular/Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, which was completed in 2008. A portion of the gift was made in honor of neurologist Max Benazaquen, MD.
"We are grateful to be beneficiaries of the Orthweins' generosity," said Gary Olson, president and CEO of St. Luke's, upon accepting the gift in 2007. "We are greatly honored to receive their tremendous support for our master plans for the Brain and Spine Center and the CV/Neuro ICU."
