Neonatal Special Care Nursery
The Saigh Foundation Special Care Nursery, St. Luke's level II neonatal nursery, offers care for premature infants born as early as 30 weeks and newborns with other special medical needs. Neonatologists, pediatricians, certified neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained nursing staff provide the advanced care and specialized support these babies need.
In 2013, an extensive renovation expanded the Special Care Nursery to include:
- Spacious, private rooms
- Specially designated spaces for twins and other multiples to stay together
- Upgraded technology including a state-of-the-art patient montoring system
- Other amenities that provide the optimal environment for family bonding and education
Designed around the needs and comfort of babies and their families, the spacious new rooms include large windows, recliner chairs and special features such as warming lights over the sink for bath time right in the room. A separate Lactation Room with a flat screen TV for viewing videos offers additional space and privacy for breastfeeding.
Some of the special medical care babies may receive in the Special Care Nursery include assistance with breathing or IV therapy. Others may have complications such as infections, low blood glucose levels or heart defects. In rare cases where a newborn may require more intensive care than the Special Care Nursery is able to provide, St. Luke's will supervise transferring the baby to an infant critical care unit within our metro area.
St. Luke's Neonatologists are part of Pediatrix Medical Group, the nation's leading provider of maternal-fetal, newborn and pediatric subspecialty physician services.
