St. Luke's Level II Neonatal Special Care Nursery is available for newborns who may need extra medical attention. Neonatologists, pediatricians, certified neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained nursing staff supervise the nursery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Special Care Nursery is equipped to care for premature infants, including those delivered as early as 30 weeks, and babies with other special needs such as respiratory difficulties who require a ventilator, congenital anomalies (such as heart defects), infection, low blood glucose levels, and the need for IV therapy. Since family involvement is instrumental in promoting baby's health, we work closely with families to continuously communicate baby's progress and encourage bonding with parents for care and feeding.
In rare cases where a newborn may require more intensive care than the Special Care Nursery is able to provide, St. Luke's will supervise transferring the baby to an infant critical care unit within our metro area.
St. Luke's Neonatologists are part of Pediatrix Medical Group, the nation's leading provider of maternal-fetal, newborn and pediatric subspecialty physician services.
