Abortion - infected

Definition

An infected abortion occurs when an infection develops in the material from the fetus or placenta or the lining of the uterus (endometrium).

Causes

An infected abortion may occur if parts of the fetal or placental tissue stay in the uterus after an incomplete abortion.

Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Cramping
