Mabee Foundation, Inc. Grant Helps St. Luke's Hospital Open Hybrid Operating Room

CHESTERFIELD, MO, September 27, 2010 - The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation, Inc. has made its first-ever gift to St. Luke's Hospital. Its $785,000 challenge grant has helped fund the approximately $4 million hybrid operating room of the Robert Paine, MD Heart Institute at St. Luke's.

"We are honored and thankful for the generous support of the Mabee Foundation," said Sue Adams, St. Luke's Hospital executive director of development. "The Mabee Foundation is known across the country for supporting projects and organizations of the highest merit and benefit to society. With its generous help, we are able to provide our patients state-of-the-art cardiac and vascular care in our hybrid operating room."

St. Luke's hybrid operating room opened last month and allows surgeons to treat patients with complex medical conditions with new procedures that combine minimally invasive techniques with traditional surgical care, providing much lower risk to patients and faster recoveries.

It includes a specialized imaging system, the robotic Artis zeego angiography system of Siemens Healthcare. This high-tech imaging equipment helps physicians see the inside of organs and blood vessels to aid in minimally invasive treatments for vascular disease. It provides real-time, moving, three-dimensional images from all angles.

Including the Mabee Foundation challenge grant, St. Luke's has received gifts and pledges from grateful patients and supporters, totaling $4.2 million.
