St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo. has been selected for two national awards for excellence in recognition of the health information offered to the public through their web site and for their consistency in achieving top performance as a health care provider.
St. Luke's website received Silver (second place) honors for Patient Education Information for a Hospital/Healthcare system website. The Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials, organizes the World Wide Web Health Awards. The Web-based health awards are an extension of the HIRC's 10-year old National Health Information Awards (NHIA), the largest program of its kind in the United States. There were nearly 1,100 entries in the National Health Information Awards from hundreds of organizations.
St. Luke's mission embraces the importance of educating the community. One way this is ensured is by continually enhancing the health content on St. Luke's internally designed website. The health information features now include illustrated health encyclopedia, surgeries and procedures, body guide, pregnancy health center, drug information, health care guides and more.
In the previous year, St. Luke's also added on-line bill payment options, the ability to send cards to patients in the hospital, CME courses and information on the Center for Cancer Care.
The listing of winners for the Spring 2004 World Wide Web Health Awards is available at the following link: http://www.healthawards.com/wwwha/s2004winners/index.htm (Click on Patient Education Information).
The second recognition is from Solucient, and has been published in Modern Healthcare magazine. (July 26, 2004). St. Luke's is one of only 77 hospitals in the nation to have been selected as a Top 100 Hospital for Overall Performance at least four times within 10 years, thus making St. Luke's a Top Benchmark Hospital. St. Luke's is the only hospital in St. Louis to achieve this recognition.
"It is because of our exceptional medical staff, board of directors, employees and volunteers that we consistently achieve high national recognition. It is an honor to receive these awards," said Gary Olson, president and CEO of St. Luke's.
