St. Luke's Hospital and RehabCare Announce the Opening of St. Luke's Rehabilitation Hospital

New 35-bed facility provides intensive inpatient rehabilitation in a home-like atmosphere

CHESTERFIELD, MO, December 4, 2008 - St. Luke's Hospital and RehabCare Group, Inc. (NYSE:RHB) announce the opening of St. Luke's Rehabilitation Hospital in West St. Louis County. As of December 4, 2008, St. Luke's is relocating inpatient rehabilitation to the new hospital. St. Luke's Rehabilitation Hospital is located three miles west of St. Luke's main campus at 14709 Olive Boulevard in Chesterfield on the campus of Surrey Place, a skilled nursing facility owned by St. Luke's Hospital. To celebrate, a grand opening event is planned for January 26.

The new 35-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility provides medical and therapy services for residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Patients include those who require intensive inpatient rehabilitation, consisting of at least three hours of therapy per day, five days a week, for recovery from stroke, traumatic brain injury, amputation, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis and other debilitating conditions.

In October 2006, St. Luke's Hospital and RehabCare announced their intent to form a joint venture that would develop, own and operate the new rehabilitation hospital. The intent was to address an increasing need for rehabilitation services in the community by relocating and expanding St. Luke's 16-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit on its main campus.

"We are excited to serve the St. Louis market with expanded services that continue St. Luke's tradition of high-quality, compassionate rehabilitative care," said Kevin Syberg, St. Luke's Rehabilitation Hospital CEO. Syberg says the new rehabilitation hospital offers amenities such as private patient rooms, areas for family and physician conferences and a dining room for family-style meals, allowing for recovery in a home-like atmosphere. "Our goal is to provide an environment for patients to relearn real-life skills necessary to return to home and family at a higher level of independence," he said.

Syberg, who holds a Doctorate of Public Health in Hospital and Health Services Administration, has more than 20 years experience in clinical and operations management and business development for hospitals in Missouri and Illinois. Most recently, he served as Regional Director of Development for Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria but also has held executive-level positions in several St. Louis area hospitals.

The hospital's interdisciplinary treatment team, which includes nursing, physical and occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists, is led by Medical Director Dr. Ronald Fischer, a board certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. Dr. Fischer has served as medical director for rehabilitation services at St. Luke's Hospital since 1989, in addition to his private practice.
