St. Luke's Hospital Joins Spirit of Women
Florence Henderson Helps Launch the Program at Annual St. Luke's Women's Event
April 26, 2008 - St. Luke's Hospital today announced it has joined Spirit of Women, an integrated partnership of hospitals and healthcare systems across the United States. Spirit of Women hospitals aim to improve the health of women and their families. The Spirit of Women program launch will be celebrated at St. Luke's "Conversations for Women" event on Saturday, April 26 starting at 9:30 a.m.
St. Luke's is pleased to welcome actress Florence Henderson as the keynote speaker for the event which is expected to draw nearly 500 women.
"By joining Spirit of Women, St. Luke's Hospital has committed to help women take action for their health and the health of their families by providing many fun educational opportunities," said Jan Hess, St. Luke's Hospital vice president. "Our pledge to evidence-based clinical guidelines that focus on women-centered services reinforces our participation in this program and in our commitment to our patients."
Because women make more than 75 percent of household consumer decisions, including those related to healthcare, the educational and motivational Spirit of Women efforts are expected to positively impact the well-being of the entire family and community as a whole. The programming and resources recognize that women experience different symptoms than men for various medical conditions, and the program offers ways to address gender-specific issues throughout women's life spans. The programming and resources reach beyond women's health, since women are caregivers and decision-makers for multiple generations, often neglecting their own personal health to care for others.
Through Spirit of Women, St. Luke's will conduct a wide variety of events including educational and recreational activities, health screenings, workshops and support groups that will reach women in all stages of their lives. Additionally, the annual Spirit of Women Awards program will provide the opportunity to recognize local residents who exemplify "Spirit" in their community by balancing life's many demands, while still finding time to make a difference in the lives of others.
