St. Luke's is the ONLY hospital in
St. Louis to be named Top 100 Hospital for overall performance

St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri is one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation according to a study released today by Solucient: 100 Top Hospitals® National Benchmarks for Success. The 12th study, published in Modern Healthcare, identifies industry benchmarks by recognizing hospitals and their management teams that demonstrate superior clinical, operational, and financial performance.
St. Luke's is the only hospital in the St. Louis area to be ranked among the Top 100 Hospitals. This is the fifth time St. Luke's has received this award.

A new study by Solucient® shows that hospitals in the Midwestern states have taken the lead in setting new national benchmarks for survival, increased safety, "complication-free" care and overall hospital operational performance. The study also reports that US hospitals as a whole have improved outcomes and reduced lengths of stay, suggesting that performance efforts have a positive impact.

"This is a tremendous accomplishment for St. Luke's Hospital, our medical staff, employees and volunteers," said Gary Olson, president and chief executive officer, St. Luke's Hospital. "Patient safety was measured for the first time in this edition of the study. Safety is of the utmost importance at St. Luke's."

"The new benchmark hospitals have set the bar much higher for patient outcomes, patient safety, operational performance and improved value for the community," said Jean Chenoweth, executive director of Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals program.

This year's benchmark hospitals have higher survival rates, lower complication rates and lower expenses than their peers. Among the key findings were:
  • The South showed the weakest performance with nearly 60 percent of its states (10 of 17) in the bottom two quintiles of performance.
  • The 100 Top Hospitals treated sicker patients with fewer staff, yet had better patient outcomes.
  • On average, benchmark hospitals released their patients nearly half a day earlier than peer hospitals.
This award accompanies St. Luke's recognition as 100 Top Hospital for Cardiovascular Services, Top Benchmark Hospital and being listed as one of the Best Places to Work by the St. Louis Business Journal.
