Complication - is a measure of how often unexpected occurrences, such as infections or bleeding, happen in the hospital. The lower the rate, the less often these unexpected situations occur. The complication rate is adjusted to take into account the severity of patients' illnesses.
St. Luke's Hospital's complication rate is 6 percent lower (better) than comparable hospitals. This means that unexpected occurrences occur 6 percent less often at St. Luke's Hospital than they do at other comparable hospitals.
