Signs and Symptoms of a Heart Attack

Chest Discomfort
Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.

Discomfort in Other Areas of the Upper Body
An individual may experience pain in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

Shortness of Breath
This often occurs before or in conjunction with chest discomfort.

Other Signs
The other symptoms may include a cold sweat, nausea, or light-headedness.

Take Action Immediately
The American Heart Association encourages everyone to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. If you or someone you know is experiencing one or more of the symptoms, call 9-1-1 immediately. Never drive yourself to the hospital, unless you have absolutely no other choice.
