What is a Cleft Lip and/or Palate?
A cleft lip is a separation in the upper lip between the mouth and the nose. A cleft palate is a separation of the tissue, which forms the roof of the mouth.

One out of every 700 births result in a cleft lip or palate. Many of these occur in families in which there is no history of clefts. While it is known how cleft deformities occur, it is seldom known why.
