Life in St. Louis
The Arch located on the Mississippi Riverfront symbolizes St. Louis, known as the "Gateway to the West." The 630-foot Gateway Arch is the nation's tallest monument. Metropolitan St. Louis has a population of 2.6 million people. It is a sophisticated and vibrant area.
St. Louis' musical heritage ranges from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to Dixie-land jazz and riverboat ragtime. Sports lovers can enjoy everything from professional baseball, football and hockey, to backpacking, hiking and boating in the nearby Ozark Mountains and State forests.
The St. Louis Zoo is nationally acclaimed (and free). Other offerings include the Art Museum, the Science Center and the Missouri Botanical Garden. City, County and State parks provide other sources of recreation, concerts and natural beauty. Within four miles of the Hospital is the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House.
