Abnormal behaviors during sleep include sleepwalking, talking or yelling, and abnormal movements, which in some individuals, may be violent. It is important to determine whether the behavior is harmless or results in disrupted sleep or injury. Some violent activity may be caused by an abnormality which permits the person to act out his or her dreams. In rare cases, seizures may account for unusual behaviors during sleep.
Sleepwalking is common in children but may also occur in adults. The sleepwalker should be protected by reducing the risk of falling and removing potential dangers from the bedroom.
