Closely associated with physical therapy, occupational therapy facilitates improving an individual's ability to perform tasks required for independent functioning, such as dressing, driving, bathing and grooming. Therapeutic intervention may include splinting, therapeutic exercise, energy conservation, joint protection education, pain management, cognition retraining, daily living training and transfer training (i.e. moving from sitting to standing at a counter).
