Digital Mammography at St. Luke's Hospital
St. Luke's Hospital is now proud to offer digital mammography, the latest diagnostic technology available for breast cancer. Instead of creating an image of the breast on film, digital mammography takes an electronic image of the breast and stores it directly in a computer. Digital mammography is more sensitive than film mammography, and it uses less radiation. It is particularly useful for women with dense breast tissue, who are pre or peri-menopausal or are under the age of 50.
During the transition to digital, mammography services will be shifting to more scheduled appointments to ensure the most efficient patient care. St. Luke's will continue to offer walk-in screening mammograms between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Imaging of patients with acute issues (i.e. lumps), diagnostic mammograms and "call backs" for additional views will require scheduling. After hours screening appointments are still available.
Benefits of Digital Mammography
- Enables physician manipulation of images
- Better imaging resolution

St. Luke's Breast Imaging Division has specially-trained mammography technologists and dedicated breast radiologists who work closely with The Breast Care Center's staff to ensure each patient's unique needs are met.
