Donation from National City and National Breast Cancer Foundation
More underserved women will receive free mammograms thanks to a $50,000 donation from National City in conjunction with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The presentation took place Thursday, October 18 at the National City Survivor Celebration concert at the Sheldon Concert Hall.
"We help thousands of women each month through our mammography services and Breast Care Center," said Jan Hess, St. Luke's Hospital administrator. "The donation will enable us to continue providing vitally important mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women in the community."
The donation will help fund screening and diagnostic mammograms through St. Luke's Hospital's Breast Care Center. St. Luke's Breast Care Center is dedicated to providing highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic services for women who are concerned about or diagnosed with breast cancer. It is one of only three centers in Missouri to be designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
"Education and screening are two of the most important tools in combating breast cancer," said Janelle Hail, president and founder of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. "Our relationship with National City has further enabled us to provide quality educational programs and free mammograms to those in need and, most importantly, help save lives."
The donation is part of National City's "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign to shed light on the fight against breast cancer. This is the second year the National Breast Cancer Foundation and National City have awarded the donation to St. Luke's Hospital.
"I can't tell you how appreciative I am," said Nancy M. of South County. "I was uninsured at the time, and, fortunately, St. Luke's was providing free mammograms funded by National City. I was very impressed that they were doing that, and I'm very grateful for the help."
Uninsured and underinsured women interested in getting mammograms should call 314-205-6267.
