St. Luke's Hospital Launches Affiliation with the Nation's No. 1 Heart Hospital, Cleveland Clinic

Chesterfield, MO , January 19, 2016

St. Luke's Hospital announces an affiliation with Cleveland Clinic's Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute. The affiliation combines the academic, clinical and research components of Cleveland Clinic with St. Luke's, one of the St. Louis area's leading providers of heart care.

As the exclusive St. Louis affiliate, St. Luke's patients will benefit from the best practices that have helped Cleveland Clinic's heart program achieve U.S. News & World Report's No. 1 ranking for 21 consecutive years.

"As we begin our 150th year serving patients in the greater St. Louis area, we are proud to build upon our rich history of excellence in heart care," said Christine M. Candio, RN, FACHE, St. Luke's Hospital president and chief executive officer. "Our healthcare team is thrilled to work with Cleveland Clinic's Heart & Vascular Institute as its exclusive St. Louis-area affiliate to improve the health of our community."

Through the affiliation, St. Luke's and Cleveland Clinic will collaborate to continue best practices in quality and patient safety. St. Luke's patients will also get greater access to new treatments, clinical trials and second opinions.

"This affiliation further strengthens and advances cardiac treatment in order to provide the highest level of patient care no matter where you live," said Joseph Cacchione, MD, cardiologist and chairman of strategic operations at Cleveland Clinic's Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute. "Treating patients with cardiovascular disease is complex, and our affiliation with St. Luke's Hospital will advance heart care in the St. Louis metro area."

For more than a decade, Cleveland Clinic's Heart & Vascular Institute has formed affiliations with cardiothoracic surgery and cardiovascular medicine programs in Ohio and across the country to combine the unparalleled research and expertise of Cleveland Clinic's heart program with the efforts of other cardiac leaders. St. Luke's is the 18th affiliate of Cleveland Clinic's Heart & Vascular Institute in the nation.

"Collaborating with the highly-esteemed heart experts of Cleveland Clinic positions us to continue enhancing the quality of St. Luke's extraordinary heart care into the future," said Ronald D. Leidenfrost, MD, FACS, St. Luke's Heart & Vascular Institute chairman. "With access to the latest treatments and research, St. Luke's healthcare team is ready to make an even greater impact on the lives of our patients."
