BreastAdvantage TM Program Offers Proactive Breast Health Evaluation and Services
St. Luke's is proud to offer BreastAdvantage TM , a unique and comprehensive breast cancer risk assessment program offered exclusively at St. Luke's participating facilities.

The program provides an in-depth assessment of a woman's potential for breast cancer based on personal and family history risk factors. BreastAdvantage is free of charge, and helps to determine if a woman should consider more aggressive screening and surveillance strategies, genetic counseling and genetic testing by our in-house genetic counselor, providing a distinct advantage to patients and physicians. Women are also connected with a Breast Care Coordinator who offers reassuring guidance, education and access to hospital and community resources.

The BreastAdvantage assessment includes:
  • A personal interview to review each patient's Breast Health History
  • Evaluation using clinically respected risk models to calculate estimated lifetime risk and produce a summary
  • Review by a certified genetic counselor to identify other potential genetic risk factors and cancer syndromes
  • Review by a board-certified radiologist to recommend most appropriate screening and surveillance strategies based on American Cancer Society (ACS) guidelines
  • Creation of a personalized screening plan for each patient
  • Care coordination through our comprehensive breast imaging services
  • Care coordination with other specialists specific to the needs of the high-risk population including consultations with a genetic counselor, St. Luke's Hospital's High Risk Breast Clinic or specialist(s) of the patient's choice, including a breast imaging radiologist
"The response to the BreastAdvantage program has been overwhelmingly positive from both patients and physicians," says Becky Tackett, RN, BSN, CBPN-IC, breast care coordinator. "Recent developments in the ability to predict and modify breast cancer risk have made it increasingly important to identify these women in order to guide appropriate management. Physicians know they can rely on us to focus on their patient's breast health to provide them with a reliable assessment and evaluation. For some patients, we are able to allay their fears and provide reassurance that routine screening is enough. For others, we can provide them with options to augment routine screening."

The program is currently available at St. Luke's Women's Center in Chesterfield Valley, Center for Diagnostic Imaging at WingHaven, and Midwest Breast Care in Creve Coeur, with future plans to implement at St. Luke's Hospital.
