Hip and Knee Revisions

Sometimes, even the best knee and hip replacements need a correction or revision. Most hip and knee replacements last for years - between 10 and 20 on average. Some patients may even live their lives without needing a second procedure. That is our hope and goal with every patient.

However, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), approximately 10 percent of all hip and knee replacements will need a revision. That number is growing because the amount or hip and knee replacements being performed are growing, too. Hip or knee revisions may be necessary due to common circumstances such as:

  • Usage which may cause instability
  • Infection
  • Movement from its natural position
  • Individual factors

For these reasons, the St. Luke's Orthopedic and Total Joint Center offers joint replacement patients one of St. Louis' premier joint replacement revision options available. Our orthopedic surgeons are experts in joint revision surgery and know the uncertainty about having another procedure on a previously-treated joint. We also know with our team of highly-experienced orthopedic surgeons, nursing staff, professional operating room personnel and therapists, you can be assured your concerns, care and recovery are our top priorities.

If you are experiencing pain, movement, dislocation or diminished activity level with your previously-corrected hip or knee, we can help. As with all our patients, we can try non-invasive techniques first, using surgery as our last option.
