St. Luke's Hospital Volunteer Program
Student Volunteer Program
The Student Volunteer Program is open to high school (age 16 and older) and college students who are interested in contributing their time to serve the visitors, patients and staff of St. Luke's Hospital. St. Luke's seeks dedicated and organized students who want to help others and can make a weekly commitment to the hospital.
Student volunteers can assist with a variety of tasks including: customer service, gift shop, stocking supplies and transporting patients. (They do not perform or observe medical or patient care procedures of any kind.) Student volunteers are scheduled on the same day/same shift for the entire session and are required to volunteer four hours each week. Assignments are based on the needs of the hospital and the student's availability. Please note that evening and weekend assignments are limited.
We offer three sessions per year in our Student Volunteer Program: Spring, Summer and Fall. The session dates, service requirements, schedule and application dates are listed in the table below.
If selected, applicants will be notified for a personal interview and potential volunteer opportunity after the application period is closed. All volunteers will be required to undergo a background check (social security number required), health screenings, provide complete immunization records, receive a yearly flu shot (or show proof of prior receipt), as well as attend information, orientation and training sessions.
Please refer to the table below to determine if applications are currently being accepted.

Q: I missed the application period - what should I do?
Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept your application until the next open application period.
Q: What days and time do volunteers work?
The greatest need for volunteers is Monday through Friday during the day. Evening and weekend shifts are very limited. Shifts are: Morning (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Afternoon (12 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and Evening (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
Q: I have a job, but want to volunteer, as well. Can I volunteer whenever I am not scheduled to work?
Volunteering requires you to be available the same day and same shift each week for an entire term. Coordinating a regular schedule is necessary for our volunteer program to work effectively in conjunction with our hospital departments.
Q: I participate in sports and am not available for the whole semester. Can I still volunteer?
The volunteer program is structured to encompass full sessions only. Please apply when you are sure you can commit to serving a regularly scheduled shift for an entire session.
