St. Luke's continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and is taking all necessary steps to best care for and serve our community. This includes taking all necessary precautions to protect our patients and healthcare teams. We continue to work closely with local and state health departments as well as the Centers for Disease Control to ensure we have the most up-to-date information during this rapidly changing situation. In an effort to slow the transmission of COVID-19 and to help save lives across the St. Louis metropolitan area, St. Luke's Hospital joined BJC Healthcare, Mercy and SSM Health to create the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force. The task force builds on the coordinated work from our region's health systems, governmental and public health leaders to ensure collaboration for the best possible patient care and coordination of supplies, hospital beds and other critical assets.

To protect yourself and help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, the CDC recommends:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face - eyes, nose and mouth - to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, especially if someone is sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.


Ways to support St. Luke's during the COVID-19 pandemic

Now Offering Virtual Visits
In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, St. Luke's now offers telephone and virtual video visits to connect you with a medical provider, safely and securely from your home or workplace. Visit the mystlukes portal to send a message to your provider to request a video or phone appointment. Or, you can call your physician's office directly regarding these services.

St. Luke's Network is committed to serving our patients and communities by providing exceptional patient-centric care. While we recognize the importance of family members and friends as part of the healing process for our patients, these needs must be balanced against the need to prevent the transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) within our communities and facilities.

Visitor guidelines:
Effective Wednesday, June 17, St. Luke's is reopening visitation within our facilities with safety practices. Universal masking applies to all patients, visitors, team members, physicians or individuals who need to enter our facilities.
  • Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centers: One visitor is permitted to accompany patients. Visitors are encouraged to consider alternate outside locations to wait, if available.
  • Scheduled Outpatient or Same-Day Surgeries: Surgical patients in the outpatient/same-day settings may have one visitor in the waiting room or designated area throughout the procedure. If a surgical patient is admitted or moved to an inpatient unit after the procedure, the inpatient setting's visitor policy would apply once moved. Visitors are encouraged to consider alternate outside locations to wait, if available,
  • Outpatient Appointments: Patients with an appointment in a St. Luke's Hospital or St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital outpatient setting or procedural area may have one visitor. In a physician office appointment, one support person can accompany the patient to participate in exam room questions and care.
  • Inpatient Areas:
    • Labor and Delivery Units: Two designated visitors are permitted to accompany patients who have been admitted for labor. (This includes certified doulas or birthing coaches.) Visiting hours for the Labor and Delivery Units are available 24 hours a day.
    • Nursery and Special Care Nursery (SNC): Patients may have two designated visitors who must remain in the patient room for the duration of the visit. Visiting hours for the Nursery and Special Care Nursery are available 24 hours a day.
    • Pediatrics: Pediatric patients may have two designated visitors on the inpatient units. For the purposes of this policy, pediatric patients are defined as patients under 18 years of age. Visiting hours for Pediatrics are available 24 hours a day.
    • All Other Inpatient Units: All other inpatient units may have one visitor.
  • Children under 16 will not be permitted as visitors except under extraordinary circumstances, with permission from the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • All visitors will be screened before entering our facilities.
Visitor Hours:
For all inpatient areas, visiting hours will be 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted. For outpatient surgeries, procedures and appointments, hours will be consistent with the patient's surgery, procedure or appointment.

Visitor Expectations:
  • Visitors must remain in the patient's room for the duration of the visit, with temporary exceptions to visit the cafeteria, chapel, restroom, gift shop, etc., provided they return directly to the patient's room.
  • Visitors shall not be permitted to be in the room during nasopharyngeal (NP) specimen collection or aerosol-generation procedures.
  • Visitors shall perform hand hygiene at point of wellness screening and upon entry/exit of the patient's room.
  • Visitors must wear a mask at all times.
Screening Process:
In addition, visitor screenings remain in place and any one of the following criteria shall exclude a visitor from entry:
  • Visitors displaying signs or symptoms of acute illness (fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sudden loss of taste and/or smell, sore throat, body aches, diarrhea or vomiting)
  • Visitors who have had recent contact (<14 days) with someone suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19
Suspected or Confirmed COVID-19 Patients:
  • In-person visitation is not allowed for COVID-19 confirmed or suspected cases. Virtual visitors shall be offered as an alternative when possible.
  • Exceptions will be considered and approved for compassionate care scenarios.

Health Information Services - Medical Records
Due to the current pandemic situation we are no longer able to process requests for medical record copies in person. We are happy to accommodate your request by mail or, for urgent situations, by fax. Please reach out to us by telephone at 314-205-6186 to make arrangements.

Outpatient COVID-19 Testing Center
St. Luke's outpatient COVID-19 testing center is located inside St. Luke's Urgent Care in Creve Coeur (11550 Olive Blvd.). Patients must have a COVID-19 testing physician order from a St. Luke's medical staff provider, and you need to schedule an appointment prior to traveling to the testing site. Your physician's office will provide scheduling instructions. When you arrive for COVID-19 testing, you must wear a face mask and enter through the Urgent Care Center's main entrance. Accommodations will be made for patients with limited mobility.
