Help in Finding the Right Physician
Maybe you are new to the St. Louis area and need a primary care physician, were told to see a specialist or are looking for a second opinion on a diagnosis. Where do you begin? How do you find a doctor who fits your needs without spending an extensive amount of time researching your options?
The answer is simple-you can easily find a physician who fits your needs by calling St. Luke's Physician Referral Service at 314-205-6060 or 888-205-6556. Or you may choose to visit the referral office, located in Suite 490 of the North Medical Office Building on St. Luke's campus.
Staffed by registered nurses, the physician referral service is available 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday (except holidays) to help callers identify a physician who's right for them or a family member. With use of a detailed database of physicians on staff at St. Luke's, the referral service nurses give you several names of physicians who best fit your criteria and then let you choose the physician of your choice.
The following search criteria are available through St. Luke's Physician Referral Service:
- Office location
- Insurance provider
- Board certification
- Office hours
- Medical education and graduate studies
"One of the great things about St. Luke's Physician Referral is the personal service our nurses provide," says Kathleen Hirlinger, manager of St. Luke's Physician Referral Service. "They can help point you in the right direction, ask questions you might not know are important and help you along in the process of finding an appropriate physician who meets your needs."
In addition, St. Luke's Physician Referral Service nurses can discuss hospital programs and services and, in cases of immediate need, can even schedule same day appointments.
"We care about our callers and work closely with them-especially those who need treatment quickly," says Hirlinger. "If someone calls with an injury or illness requiring urgent care, we can assist them with making an appointment with a physician. Our goal is to make finding quality healthcare as easy and stress-free as possible."
Hirlinger reminds us, though, that every individual should be established with a primary care physician while they are well. "The last thing you want to do when you are sick is to begin finding a doctor. Establish a relationship with a physician early, before you need one, and save yourself stress in the long run," Hirlinger says.
