Congratulations to the 2012 St. Luke's Hospital Healthy Woman Award honorees.
As a district maintenance engineer at the Missouri Department of Transportation, Becky developed the innovative "Morning Muster" program for maintenance workers. By incorporating stretching and exercises each morning before the physically challenging labor of the maintenance crews begins, the program helps reduce workplace injuries, and has been adopted as a statewide best practice. She also championed a new, more rigorous hard hat policy for the district. Personally, Becky demonstrates a holistic approach to healthy living as an accomplished runner (including marathons and half-marathons), busy mother and being active in her church.
Since being diagnosed in 2007with Scleroderma, a debilitating autoimmune disease, Kelly has made it her mission to champion the cause and help others. Not only has she been very proactive in managing her own health through diet, exercise and therapy to minimize the disease's rate of progression, but in 2010 she founded The Relief Foundation to help others living with Scleroderma. Through the foundation, she helps provide support and guidance to patients and their families locally and nationally. One of her primary goals is to increase awareness of Scleroderma so that patients receive early diagnosis and treatment. She remains very active in her church and community, noting that giving of herself to others increases her mental and emotional health.
Julie impacts not only her own health, but the health of most that come in contact with her. She exercises regularly and maintains a healthy diet. With a strong interest in improving the health of others, she is currently in nursing school full-time and works part-time as personal trainer and aerobics/spinning instructor at the Jewish Community Center. She inspires her students, leading by example and taking the time to encourage them. She pushes others to do their best and challenge themselves. Her students have called her "one of the most motivating instructors I have ever seen" and attest to her always positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude.
Chris inspires others through her own healthy habits and actions. Over the past year, she trained for her first 10K, revised her eating patterns and menu choices, and joined a fresh-food cooperative. She promotes better health in others as a school nurse at a local high school and parish nurse at her church. As parish nurse, she organizes blood drives, coordinates flu shots, provides blood pressure screenings, wrote a grant proposal for exercise equipment for the church's new fitness center, developed health and fitness classes for church members and the community, and started a chair aerobics class for seniors with limited mobility. At her school, she volunteers as a leader of a self-esteem and leadership development program for teens and coaches the girls' field hockey team.
