St. Luke's Hospital Lung Cancer Screening Program Named Screening Center of Excellence

Chesterfield, Mo., August 8, 2014 - The St. Luke's Hospital Lung Cancer Screening Program has been named a Screening Center of Excellence by Lung Cancer Alliance, an organization dedicated to saving lives and advancing research by empowering those living with and at risk for lung cancer. The designation is based on the center's experience and adherence to best practices.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more people in the United States die from lung cancer than from any other type of cancer. Lung cancer screening is a valuable tool for those who are at high risk of developing the disease. Improved detection of lung cancer at earlier stages, when lung cancer is much more easily treated, is the key to improved survival rates. Screening has been shown to reduce deaths from lung cancer by 20 percent.

A limited number of free lung cancer screenings are available for those who meet the screening criteria. For more information, visit the St. Luke's Lung Cancer Screening Program page or call 314-205-6055.
