St. Luke's Hospital Receives Women's Health Excellence Award

This is the fifth year in a row that the hospital has achieved this Healthgrades honor.

Chesterfield, Mo., June 18, 2013 - St. Luke's Hospital has received the Healthgrades 2013 Women's Health Excellence Award TM . The recognition distinguishes St. Luke's as a top-performing hospital in women's health, which includes care provided to women for common conditions treated and procedures performed in the hospital such as heart care, vascular surgery, stroke care, respiratory services, orthopedic surgery and spine surgery. This is the fifth year in a row that St. Luke's has achieved this honor (2009-2013).

"As St. Louis' exclusive Spirit of Women hospital, we encourage women to take action for their health and the health of their families," said Jan Hess, St. Luke's Hospital vice president and executive sponsor of St. Luke's Spirit of Women program. "We are also committed to providing exceptional women's healthcare services to help them achieve the best quality of life possible."

Healthgrades is a leading online resource that helps consumers search, evaluate, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals. To identify the 2013 Women's Health Excellence Award recipients, it examined hospitalization records from 2009 through 2011 for female patients at the nation's nearly 4,500 non-government hospitals that treat Medicare patients. The data is risk-adjusted, which takes into account differing levels of illness severity at different hospitals and allows for hospitals to be compared fairly. Hospitals cannot opt out of this analysis, and no hospital pays to be evaluated.

In addition, St. Luke's is the only hospital in St. Louis to be named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals TM by Healthgrades since the inception of the list (2007-2013). This analysis ranks St. Luke's among the top one percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical excellence based on survival and complication rates. According to Healthgrades, St. Luke's is also ranked best in the St. Louis region* in 2013 for overall cardiac services and cardiac surgery; named No. 1 in Missouri for neurosurgery, neurosciences (neurosurgery and stroke treatment combined), overall pulmonary services, critical care and gastrointestinal medical treatment; and a recipient of the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award (2011-2013) and Pulmonary Care Excellence Award (2005-2013).
