St. Luke's Hospital would like to thank National City for the generous support of two $50,000 grants to better serve underserved women who may be in need of life-saving mammograms.

In the calendar year 2007, we started this service and provided free screening mammograms to approximately 165 patients. This no-cost initiative eliminated a heavy financial burden that prevents some women from learning their risk of developing small breast cancers that are too small to discover through breast self-examination or even through clinical breast examination.

In 2008, we continued our efforts with a presence at the Smart Living Expo which encouraged approximately 35,000 people to make smart lifestyle choices in all areas of life. During the event, nearly 70 women were screened between January 5-6. These women and others have been extremely appreciative of these services. Please see quote below:
  • "I can't tell you how appreciative I am. I was uninsured at the time, and, fortunately, St. Luke's was providing free mammograms funded by National City. I was very impressed that they were doing that, and I'm very grateful for the help," says patient Nancy M.
As you can see, your support allows us to continue our mission of improving the health of our community. We look forward to working with National City and other organizations in the future and continuing this much needed and valuable resource for women throughout the St. Louis region.
