Screenings, education for the public and ongoing support for those diagnosed with cancer continue to be an integral part of the Center for Cancer Care at St. Luke's. The physicians and staff of St. Luke's Center for Cancer Care participate in a variety of activities that benefit cancer research and treatment. In the past year, these activities included:
- The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of West County
- Yoga for Cancer Patients in Cooperation with the Wellness Committee
- Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure
The Center for Cancer Care participates in the American Cancer Society patient programs: Reach to Recovery, pairing volunteers who have recovered from breast cancer with patients who are newly diagnosed and facing treatment, and Look Good, Feel Better, offered through St. Luke's Social Services Department.
The Center for Cancer Care participates in an annual skin cancer screenings, as well as an annual men's health fair, Timeout For Men's Health, providing both prostate cancer and skin cancer information and screenings. In April, St. Luke's hosted several activities for both employees and the public that brought attention to Cancer Awareness Month. They included:
- Chemobrain
- Women's Cancers: Prevention and Screening
- Urological Cancers in Men and Women
- What's New in Radiation Therapies
- Music Therapy: The Rhythms of Healing
The Center for Cancer Care is an active member of the Cancer Agencies Network of Greater St. Louis, a unique collaboration of prominent cancer support agencies focusing on providing services to cancer patients in the metropolitan area through its Web site, resource guide and special programs.
