Screenings, education for the public and ongoing support for those diagnosed with cancer continue to be an integral part of the Center for Cancer Care at St. Luke's. The physicians and staff of St. Luke's Center for Cancer Care participate in a variety of activities that benefit cancer education, research and treatment. In the past year, highlights included:
  • The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of West County
  • Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure
  • The First Annual Lung Cancer Connection 5 K Run/Walk
The Center for Cancer Care continues to provide support and education through various programs. The FOCUS breast cancer support group meets monthly providing education and support to women with breast cancer and their families. The Center participates in the following American Cancer Society patient programs: Reach to Recovery, pairing volunteers who have recovered from breast cancer with patients who are newly diagnosed and facing treatment, and Look Good, Feel Better, offered through St. Luke's Social Services Department. The Center also sponsors a weekly Yoga for Cancer Patients class in cooperation with The Wellness Community of Greater St. Louis.

The Center for Cancer Care held an annual men's health fair providing both prostate cancer and skin cancer information and screenings. In April, St. Luke's hosted several educational luncheon programs for both employees and the public that brought attention to Cancer Awareness Month. They included:
  • The Da Vinci Procedure and Prostate Cancer
  • Coping with Cancer: The Psychosocial Aspects of Cancer
  • Lung Cancer: Not Just a Smoker's Disease
  • The Lowdown on Herbs and Vitamins for Cancer Prevention
  • What Women Should Know About Cervical Cancer and the Human Papilloma Virus
The Center for Cancer Care is an active member of the Cancer Agencies Network of Greater
St. Louis, a unique collaboration of prominent cancer support agencies focusing on providing services to cancer patients in the metropolitan area through its Web site, resource guide and special programs. In addition, the annual Cancer Wellness Fair reached out to and welcomed almost 300 cancer survivors and family from the Greater St. Louis area.

St. Luke's also participated in the American Academy of Dermatology free skin cancer screening. Five Dermatologists, two Registered Nurses and one volunteer ran the screening. There were a total of 90 patients screened and detected more than 65 suspicious lesions, including 4 basal cell carcinomas and 1 squamous cell carcinoma.
