SAVI SCOUT®

One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and one of the most common procedures performed for early breast cancer is a lumpectomy. This is why the team at St. Luke's Women's Center is committed to increasing the success rates of lumpectomy and alleviating the stress and discomfort for our patients by improving your overall experience.

St. Luke's became the first facility in St. Louis to offer a radiation-free technology to more precisely locate and target breast cancer tissue during a lumpectomy. SAVI SCOUT® is a revolutionary non-radioactive, wire-free breast localization system that offers patients greater convenience. It allows us to very precisely locate a tumor with extreme accuracy and helps the surgeon perform a more targeted operation that conserves healthy tissue and provides the best possible outcome.

Instead of using wires, Savi Scout uses a small, 1cm reflector to help surgeons find tumors. Radiologists can implant this reflector inside your breast on any date before surgery. This means no extra waiting the morning of surgery.

This technology is also FDA approved for lifetime implantation, which means there are no restrictions on the length of time the reflector can remain in the breast. This FDA clearance means that your breast surgeon will no longer be constrained by a maximum implant time, allowing them the flexibility to place SCOUT to mark a biopsy or lumpectomy site.

Another benefit with SAVI Scout is that it allows the surgeon to precisely target the diseased area in the breast which enables them to remove the cancerous cells with the least amount of healthy breast tissue. And by saving healthy tissue, women may have fuller, more normally shaped breasts after surgery.
