About this event
October is Menopause Month and St. Luke's experts are offering weekly health talks for women about how to prevent, treat and manage health conditions associated with menopause.
Conversations for Women: Taking Action for Better Health in Menopause is for women in perimenopause and menopause who want to take action for better health and quality of life.
Tonight's talk is about the importance of bone health. Bones are living tissue, constantly generating new bone cells and removing old bone (resorption). However, by the time we are in our 30s, the rate of bone loss exceeds the rate of new bone formation, which leads to thinner and weaker bones. As we age, our bones gradually lose strength and density (called low bone density, or osteopenia). This puts us at risk for osteoporosis and fractures.
