Designed for people of varied abilities, this adaptive yoga class is unique in that it takes vinyasa-inspired sequences and adapts them to a hybrid seated and standing chair-assisted movement practice. Ground poses are offered for those who can get on the floor, with modifications and chair-based alternatives for those who cannot.
Yoga can help improve muscle strength, aerobic fitness, balance, flexibility and mobility – all of which are important to older adults. It’s also a low-impact activity that is easy on the joints, which is imperative in any exercise regimen for seniors.
All sessions are free. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat if you have one, and bring a reusable water bottle. There will be some mats and yoga blocks available.
All participants must agree to release St. Luke’s from any liability as a result of participation, provided through acknowledgement during the registration process.
This class is part of a 6 week series located at St. Luke's Hospital Insitute for Health, Classroom 6.
