The St. Luke's Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center of Comprehensive Management and Excellence physician team is comprised of Keith Mankowitz, MD, FACC, Jonas Cooper, and Jeremy Leidenfrost, MD. All have a special interest in the condition and bring extensive experience to those seeking diagnosis or treatment.

Keith Mankowitz, MD, FACC
Keith Mankowitz, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist with the Heart Health Specialists. He brings extensive heart care experience to St. Luke's and has practiced in St. Louis since 1996. He is board-certified in cardiology and internal medicine. Dr. Mankowitz received his medical degree from University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and completed his residency and fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine.

His practice specialty areas include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, valvular heart diseases, cardiovascular problems in athletes, prevention of sudden death in athletes, and congestive heart failure.

Dr. Mankowitz is the director of the St. Luke's Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center of Comprehensive Management and Excellence. He has a special interest in screening athletes for suspected cardiovascular disorders specifically to prevent sudden death in those ages 18 and above. He has been recognized as one of the "Best Doctors" in St. Louis from 2006 to 2017, is a member of the American College of Cardiology and is a published author for various research publications on topics related to heart disease.

Jeremy Leidenfrost, MD
Jeremy Leidenfrost, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with St. Luke's Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Leidenfrost earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Leidenfrost treats a variety of conditions relating to the heart, lungs, chest and blood vessels including coronary artery bypass and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

His special interests include minimally-invasive approaches in aortic valve replacement, mitral valve repair, septal myectomy procedures for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic aneurysms, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and the Cox-Maze procedure for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Jonas Cooper, MD, MPH, FACC
Jonas Cooper, MD, MPH, FACC, is a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). His electrophysiology expertise includes surgical placement and management of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices, as well as minimally-invasive ablation of cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and extra heart beats (PVCs).

Dr. Cooper received his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine and his public health degree from Harvard University. He completed his clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, was on faculty in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and has lectured and published various scholarly articles on electrophysiology.

Shane LaRue, MD, MPHS, FACC
Shane LaRue, MD, MPHS, FACC is board-certified in cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography, and advanced heart failure & cardiac transplantation with the Heart Health Center and the director of the St. Luke’s Heart Failure Clinic. He brings extensive cardiology and heart failure experience to St. Luke's, having practiced in St. Louis since 2013. Dr. LaRue received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. LaRue completed fellowships in general cardiology and advanced heart failure at Washington University School of Medicine, during which time he also earned a Masters degree in Population Health Science.

His practice specialty areas include heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis, cardiac sarcoidosis, coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.

Dr. LaRue has authored 40 peer-reviewed publications and served as site primary investigator and co-investigator for multiple clinical trials for heart failure as well as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He has been for clinical teaching and recognized as a departmental leader in patient satisfaction scores.
