Paxman Scalp Cooling System

Paxman Scalp Cooling System The St. Luke's Women's Center adopted the Paxman Scalp Cooling System, a revolutionary therapy that helps cancer patients keep some or most of their hair during chemotherapy. Many chemotherapy drugs used to treat breast cancer can cause alopecia or hair loss. Scalp cooling reduces the damage that chemotherapy causes to hair follicles by lowering the temperature of the scalp immediately before, during and after chemotherapy. This in turn reduces blood flow to the area around the hair follicles, which may prevent or minimize hair loss.

Scalp cooling provides the opportunity for patients to regain some control, maintain their privacy and encourage a positive attitude towards treatment. Paxman features the highest levels of clinical efficacy, hospital safety and is specifically designed to meet the needs of both patients and nursing staff.

Successful scalp cooling depends on many factors such as type and stage of cancer, age, hair type, hair condition and general health. It is important to understand that hair loss does vary from one person to the next and retention of all hair cannot be guaranteed. Please consult your medical team to determine whether scalp cooling is right for you.

If you are considering scalp cooling treatment, we encourage you to check with your insurance company since it is currently not covered by most insurance plans. If you have questions regarding the cost or scalp cooling procedure, please call 844-572-9626.
