About

Salim Hawatmeh, MD, FACS, is a board-certified urologist at St. Luke’s and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He grew up in St. Louis and graduated cum laude from St. Louis Country Day School, then graduated from Stanford University and St. Louis University School of Medicine. He trained in urology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and was recognized with the Gerald P. Murphy Scholar Award for distinction in prostate cancer research during his residency. He was the Chief of Urology at Mercy Hospital South for many years prior to joining St. Luke’s.

Dr. Hawatmeh specializes in robotic surgery, including robotic prostatectomy with nerve-sparing technique for prostate cancer. In addition to robotic kidney-sparing surgeries for cancer and reconstructive procedures, he offers laparoscopic and open surgery when required. He performs all surgeries for enlarged prostate, kidney stones, incontinence, and bladder cancer. He also performs penile prosthesis surgery for erectile dysfunction, insertion of artificial urinary sphincter for male incontinence, and the InterStim™ procedure for bladder control issues.

He is an experienced and versatile surgeon who performs a high volume of procedures with a focus on superior patient outcomes. Selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor by his peers, Dr. Hawatmeh also has a large vasectomy and men’s health practice which includes testosterone replacement therapy. He frequently contributes to news and radio programs in St. Louis as a subject matter expert.

Dr. Hawatmeh has presented research at national and academic meetings, including the American Urological Association and the Mayo Clinic. He is a member of the American Urological Association, American Medical Association, St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, Mayo Fellows Association, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors.
